PRACTICE SUMMARY
Jeff Steck has a quarter-century of experience in the patent field. With a background in physics and a drive to understand new technologies, he helps clients patent their inventions in fields such as telecommunications, video coding, data compression, networking, virtual reality, optics, photonics, display devices, remote sensing, cryptography, authentication, software applications, digital and analog circuits, MEMS devices, and semiconductor design and fabrication. He has handled over 1500 patent cases in the U.S. and abroad.
Clients appreciate Mr. Steck’s ability to grasp difficult technical concepts and his efficiency in converting those concepts into valuable patent rights.
Before developing his current focus on patent procurement and counseling, Mr. Steck acquired significant patent litigation experience, representing household names such as The Walt Disney Co., Walmart Inc., Sanofi S.A., Symantec Corp., and Pfizer Inc. With a reputation for clear and persuasive writing, he was frequently enlisted to write key briefs and memoranda at the trial court and appellate court levels. He continues to employ those skills with successful appeals before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, leading to the allowance of many patent applications that had been unjustly rejected.
At the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, Mr. Steck was an Executive Editor of the California Law Review and a judicial extern with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. At the University of Chicago, he was a research assistant at the Department of Neurology, studying nonlinear dynamics of human reflexes, and at the Enrico Fermi Institute, analyzing data collected at CERN’s Large Electron Positron collider.
