PRACTICE SUMMARY

Mr. Greener has practiced patent law for over 25 years.  He is listed as the attorney of record on over 300 granted US patents, and has been extensively involved in world-wide patent prosecution for his clients.  Prior to law, Bill worked for seven years as an optical engineer in addition to being an embryo transfer farmer and vineyard owner, a college faculty member, and a law clerk to Hon. Michael Telesca in the Federal District Court of the Western District of New York.  As in-house counsel for Corning Inc., Kodak, and Bausch & Lomb and as a law firm partner at Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC for the past 16 years in Ithaca, NY. Bill concentrates his practice in patent prosecution, legal opinions, and strategic IP counseling.

Mr. Greener’s optical engineering experience was primarily in high-energy lasers, adaptive optics, and holography.  He worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in West Palm Beach and as an independent contractor for P&WA at White Sands Missile Range, NM.  At Corning, Mr. Greener was a senior patent attorney in charge of their world-wide photonics erbium-doped fiber amplifier portfolio.  At B&L he managed the refractive laser surgery portfolio including laser design in Germany.  In private practice, Mr. Greener initiated professional relationships with a number of major universities, small and mid-size companies, start-ups, and university spin-outs.  Mr. Greener was a founding member of the Seed Capital Fund of Central New York.

Mr. Greener is listed as the attorney on patents assigned to Cornell University, the University of Rochester, the Laboratory for Laser Energetics, the University of Central Florida, the University of Arizona, Lockheed-Martin, as well as other clients.  Subject areas include optics, lasers, photonics, nanotechnology, ophthalmics, vision science, micro- and opto-fluidics, advanced materials, lidar, radar, robotics, and others.  He particularly likes working with young entrepreneurs and craggly old professors.

Mr. Greener holds a B.S. in Physics from Canisius College (Buffalo, NY), an M.S. in Optics from the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester, and a J.D. (cum laude) from the State University of New York at Buffalo.  He loves classic cars, cooking, the beautiful outdoors, and northern Arizona.
